There are two spots in the Black Grouse hide. The hide is wheatherproof and has two photo opening in the front and one in each other sides.
The Black Grouse lek can be observed from March when there is hopefully still snow left to get nice snowy photographs. In the end march the lek is already quite active and the culmination of the game starts in april and lasts until the first weeks of May.
We set off to the Black Grouse hide in the previous evening, so you can settle in at the hide to be prepared when the birds come in the early morning. The first birds come to the area already before sunrise and leave about 7–8 in the morning.
No sudden movements should be made with the camera and coming out of the hide is not allowed before the lek ends.
Equipment
Rubbers are definitely needed, beacuse it’s quite wet in the bog. The spring mornings are still quite cold, and at night the temperature inside the hide can drop below zero, so you need warm sleeping bag or blanket and hot tea. There are sleeping mats in the hide, but of course you can also bring your own mats with you.
