migration – one of the most magnificent spectacles in our nature.
Duration: 14 hours
Location: 10 min by car from Kuressaare + 15 min walk
Species: Common Crane and other waterbirds
Hind: 90€ per person (hide rent, guide instuctions)
Common Crane hide is for one person. The hide is wheatherproof and has one photo opening in the front and one in each other sides.
The Common Crane
hide is located on the edge of a shallow bay, which is a great nutrition area
for various migratory birds. During the day, Common Cranes feed on the fields,
but in the evening they fly near the water to spend there a safe night.
The tour guide will
send you to the hide at 4 pm and provide tips and information. Common Cranes
arrive in the evening and land hopefully near the hide. The bigger mass arrives
just at sunset. At the end of September and October, there may be thousands of Common
Cranes in one flock. You can leave the shade the next morning, when the birds
have flown to the fields again.
Equipment
High rubbers or
fishing waders are definitely needed as the way to hide goes through the water.
You can also get them from us if it’s needed. Autumn nigths are already quite
cold and at night the temperature can drop quite low, so you need warm sleeping
bag or blanket and hot tea. There are sleeping mats in the hide, but of course
you can also bring your own mats with you.
